France always feels familiar for us. We can communicate, we understand their habits and we really love their lifestyle of eating and drinking. But this part, the south-west of France, we’re now going to visit is new for us. We’ve even never heard of the island île d’Oléron before!
This is the largest island on the French Atlantic coast. The island is famous for its wonderful fine sandy beaches but also for nature at its most enchanting. It’s a touristic island.
This island was exactly what we needed. Here we found peace and really started to enjoy this dream journey together. We visited the famous black and white striped lighthouse “Phare de Chassiron” and relaxed a few days at one of the many long sandy beaches for sunbathing, swimming and making sandcastles. Dad also had a nice kitesession and mommy started paddling on a rented SUP board. Of course we didn’t leave without trying a seafood platter with the delicious Marennes-Oléron oysters. Even our four year old daughter liked these oysters!
